As the saying goes... 'TAGGS in the Belfry'

Barry Galvani - Mr. Captain 2026.
We are pleased to announce that our 2026 Captain is Barry Galvani. Barry has been an active member of the society for a number of years. He moved with his family overseas a few years ago, and now he is back in the area he rejoined in 2024.
A decent low double figure/single figure handicapper he will no doubt have many ideas for his year. Looking forward to it Barry!!

Duncan Yellen - TAGGS Secretary 2025.
At the AGM, Graham Rose announced his decision to step down as Secretary. The group thanked him for his efforts in 2024, both in general admin and his major input into the 40th celebrations, thanks Gyum.
Duncan Yellen has stepped into those shoes, Duncan joined us at the end of 2023, and has just enjoyed his first full season with TAGGS and has shown this is well within his grasp. Thanks Dunc, and if you need help, just shout.

Ray Lee collects POTY 24 Trophy
After a very consistent 2024 season, Ray Lee was presented with the POTY (Player of the Year) Trophy by Chairman John Davies at our AGM.
Ray had a incredibly consistent year with many place finishes and won by a reasonable margin in the end.
Special thanks to Vinny Mason for organising the procurement of new trophies - the POTY trophy being one of them.

Ira Washer wins Singles KO Trophy
Ira Washer collected the Singles KO trophy, again from Chairman John Davies at the AGM.
The final was played against Nige Hartley and once again was a tight affair. Going down the 18th A/S, Nige's drive left him in a spot of trouble whilst Ira found the fairway and secured the win.
Another excellent turn-out for the singles trophy in 2024, and another final hole winner.

2025 Season Announced
Steve Occleston our 2025 Captain has announced his choices for the 2025 Season. He has come up with some wonderful courses we have visited recently, and some we have not played in a while and some local courses that are well worth a visit.

Ray Lee wins 2024 POTY
Ray Lee was confirmed as 2024 Player of the Year at Porthmadog. Ray has been a member for a long time and collects the honour at the AGM on 6th November. Ray had an excellent season and was a comfortable winner in the end winning by some margin. An excellent season, where we were pleased to see 42 separate members playing during the year. Good news.

John Davies Wins Memory Cup
John Davies collected the memory Cup at Porthmadog GC. Pipping Steve Coulton by 2 points, he collected the final trophy of 2024.
The venue was an excellent choice and we had a fine turnout with 26 players.

Denis scorches at sunny SAOL.
Denis McDonald set St Annes Old Links alight with a sparkling round of golf, collecting 2 trophies on his way. The group arrived at SAOL with blue skies and autumnal sunshine. Denis blitzed the field to collect both the Captain's Trophy by 3 Stableford points over I an Milligan but also the Scratch Trophy with a fine gross 79. Defeating Daz Smith by 2 shots.
Ray Lee collected the Race To Trophy by coming home with 31 points, topping the POTY Race to table. A fabulous day on a fabulous course

Rose retains WEA Ryder Cup.
Graham Rose completed a hattrick of Ryder Cup wins as his Red team defeated Neil Titchard's Blues by
236.5-195.5. The Red team dominated all three days of competition, going into Sunday Singles 20 holes ahead overnight. The recovery was quickly dampened as the reds won singles day by a further 21 holes.
Congratulations Graham, see you next year.
Unfortunately one person who will not be going is Stu Rae. Stu who is a stalwart of TAGGS and loved his WEA's has decided that 2024 will be his last as he hangs up his WEA golf clubs. Thanks Stu, it has been a pleasure and I am sure we will all be sharing the odd beer or two very soon.

When Tosh met Noddy..& the WEA Trophy.
Noddy Rehmatullah won the WEA Individual trophy on his maiden tour with TAGGS. Played over 36 holes in two days, the trophy is a major on our calendar. After the first day John Owen held a lead of 4 shots, but Noddy pipped him by 1 shot after producing two incredibly consistent rounds of golf.
Pictured here receiving his trophy from Blues captain and organiser Neil Titchard (Neil is a massive Slade fan and his musical hero is Noddy Holder)

Duncan Yellen scoops Sharpy Shield.
TAGGS went back to where it all began, by playing Walton Hall GC in Warrington for the Sharpy Shield. Duncan Yellen collected the trophy with a fine return of 37 points on a warm, sunny afternoon. Ray Lee pipped second spot on Card Play-off from Mark Tyrer and Ira Washer. The pairs Competition was won by John Owen & Duncan Yellen.

MNDA Day Raises over £12,000.
To celebrate their 40th Anniversary TAGGS decided that they would like to raise funds and awareness of MND.
Whilst culminating in a MNDA Charity Golf day at Warrington GC on 24th July, the work has been going on behind the scenes since the decision was made at the AGM in November 2023.

Stu Rae lifts Liberation Trophy.
Stu Rae 'rocked' at our June day out in Blackpool, securing the Liberation Trophy at Blackpool North Shore. He romped in with 37 points but the scoring was high as the group were blessed with some sunshine.
John Davies & John Owen both carded 36's and took 2nd & 3rd places.
Paul Guest scored the only 2 on the day and the team event was won by Vinny Mason, John Owen, Duncan Yellen & Ira Washer

Rob Slater wins 40th Anniversary Trophy.
20 Members went to Hawkstone Park to celebrate the 40th Anniversary over a 2-day golf competition. Day I saw Rob Slater return with a remarkable 43 stableford points and was the overnight leader by 5 with Paul Guest in second. Day II saw Vinny Mason come out on top with 37, but could Paul catch the leader. After 9 holes there was only one point in it... but Rob held his nerve and Paul saw a couple of chances go by and Rob was triumphant with 73 points (and a severe hacking of his handicap).... great weekend, well organised and everyone had some fun looking at photos, videos and chatting about the life of a TAGGS member over the last 40 years.

Vinny Mason collects Russel Hollis Trophy
Day II of the 40th Anniversary W/end we played an 18-hole competition for the Russel Hollis Trophy and this was convincingly won by Vinny Mason. Playing the Championship Course at Hawkstone, Vinny returned to the clubhouse with a marvelous 37 points, and won by 6 over Paul Guest. Paul can feel a little unlucky this weekend finishing both days 2nd and same spot overall.

John Owen Wins Foreign Tour....
TAGGS Foreign Tour went over to the USA in South Carolina to play some great courses including 2 PGA courses, Harbour Town & Kiawah Ocean Course.
John Owen came out on top, right down to the last hole 3 players could win but Tony & Rob were left to enjoy the week as John lifted the tropy on the 18th at the Ocean Course. Fantastic week had by all six members, a trip of a lifetime.

McLean scoops up Rose Bowl at Sandbach
Rob McLean won our April day at Sandbach GC, collecting the Rose Bowl. In a close day he beat Ray Lee on a card play off with both carding 35 stableford points. Ira Washer came in a very close 3rd one point behind. Tim Jordan won nearest the pin and Mike Tabernacle long drive.
