Slater wins season finale
The 2025 season came to a close at Porthmadog GC. Our Captain, Steve Occleston, signed off at his own club and whilst the weather was blustery and showery, it could have been a lot worse.
Playing for the Captain's Trophy, Rob Slater collected the silver after a fantastic round of 37 points which gave him a 5 point winning margin and a good hacking off handicap secretary, Rick Hudd. Steve Coulton finished second with Rick Hudd and Denis McDonald coming in joint third with 31 points.
A superb end to a superb season, all members present stated that the year has been excellent and thanked Occy for his efforts and that we look forward to 2026 under the guidance of Duncan Yellen.

Coulton Wins Race To... Trophy
Every year we take the top 8 performers in the POTY Table and in the season finale they compete for the Race to... Trophy. This year Steve Coulton capped off a fine season personally for him by collecting the trophy from Denis McDonald by a single point. Colm Butuex in his maiden TAGGS season came in third.

McDonald Defends Scratch Trophy
Denis McDonald successfully defended his Scratch Trophy at Porthmadog, and did so quite convincingly. A tough course in not ideal conditions meant a gross score of 82 was always going to be bringing home the silverware. An excellent knock by Denis, well done.

WEA 26 - St Mellion Estate
Organiser Noddy Rehmatullah has been in overdrive organising the society to choose the destination for the coveted WEA for 2026.
After a series of votes we have opted for 4-7 September at St Mellion Estate in Saltash, Cornwall. The golf resort has two courses Nicklaus Signature & Kernow. The group will stay on site and it looks like an inspired choice of venue.
£50 deposit required for members to secure a spot on what is always an excellent weekend of golf, fun and a little competition....

Gyum's Reds win TAGGS Ryder Cup
Graham Rose and his team retained the Ryder Cup trophy by defeating Steve Occleston's Blues 12-7. After a tight day 1 (2.5v2.5) a small gap was opened up on day 2. But Sunday Singles was a sea of red wins and eventually coasted to victory.
Graham will now defend his team title against 2026 Mr Captain, Duncan Yellen.

Gooders snaffles Russel Hollis Trophy
Ian Goodman won the Russel Hollis Trophy, this was competed for on Day 1 of our WEA at The Belfry.
In a reasonably high scoring day Ian cam out on top with 39 points some 4 points ahead of his nearest rival to the crown, Rick Hudd. Our WEA Individual winner, Duncan Yellen, third with 34.

WEA Individual goes to Duncan Yellen .
The Society spent a September weekend in The Belfry for their WEA. The individual honours went to Duncan Yellen. The group found the Brabazon course a tough ask and most scored reasonably lowly, and Duncan came home with a reasonable 28 points. Then in his Sunday singles he sizzled, not just winning his tie but securing the title from Steve Coulton with a majestic 36 points on the day.

Youngs wins at Sandiway GC
Chris Youngs won his first TAGGS trophy at Sandiway picking up the Sharpy Shield. He did this by pipping last month's winner Daz Roberts by 1 stableford point. Mick Metcalfe finishing a further point back.
Chris joined us in 2025 and becomes the second debutant winner this year after Colm's win at Lymm. Great to see new names on these historic trophies.

Daz dazzles in win at Summer Trophy
The Summer Trophy was played for at Lancaster GC, one of the finer courses in Lancashire. A decent turn out from TAGGS for this splendid day and the winner was Daz Roberts. Carding an impressive 36 pts on this tough course was worthy of the win. Denis McDonald finished second after winning a CPO over Dan Dunn who finished 3rd and added to his already impressive POTY total on the day

Hudd wins back Foreign Tour Trophy
Four members, John Owen, Steve Pickford, Tony Sharp & Rick Hudd set off for France for the Foreign Tour. Playing some fine courses in Brittany they battled it out over 4 rounds of golf and Rick Hudd won back the trophy from holder John Owen. A successful foreign tour and we are looking forward to the 2026 destination.

Liberation Trophy goes home with Dunn
Dan Dunn Picked up the Liberation Trophy at High Legh GC on a day of mixed weather. Dan carded a respectable 35 points, which turned into a match winning knock. Duncan & ACS finished a further point behind.
The course was in decent condition and the club really looked after us with Mr Captain choosing the chef specials for the meal after the round. Proved to be an inspired choice as the food was excellent and concluded a fabulous day.

Owen snaps up Anniversary Trophy
22 members played at Northenden GC on a bright and sunny afternoon. We were competing for the Anniversary Trophy , donated for our 30th anniversary some 11 years ago.
John Owen obviously enjoyed the sun as his golf showed the way with a fabulous 39 stableford points to claim victory. On a high scoring day Jim Goldthorpe won 2nd spot on a CPO over Duncan Yellen with both carding 37 points.
The course is showing signs of a comeback after the horrific flooding in January this year, and the club looked after us all well, in fact some of the best food after the round in a while. Great choice.

Colm Buteux collects Rose Bowl at Lymm
One of our new members for 2025, Colm Buteux, won his first and second piece of TAGGS silverware at Lymm GC. We were playing for two trophies on the day, Rose Bowl and The Pairs Trophy.
Colm scored a very impressive 43 points on the day and stormed the rest of the field and duly collected the trophy off Steve Occleston and a handicap slashing off Rick Hudd. Mark Tyrer came in 2nd with a fine 38 points and Ira Washer 3rd with a par round of 36.
Colm was partnered with Andrew Courtney-Smith in the pairs trophy and they romped home to collect that particular trophy too off Steve. Great day at one of our more local courses, and with the recent good weather, the course looked magnificent.

Ian Milligan has fun in the sun...
Our 2nd day out for 2025 saw us compete for The Jubilee Trophy at Dunham Forest GC. Bathed in spring sunshine the course looked resplendent and we were well looked after by staff too.
On a day where the average score was 31 points, Ian Milligan came home in the last group with a majestic 41 points to pip the clubhouse leader, Steve Coulton. Ian collected the trophy and a reasonable hacking off our handicap secretary, Rick Hudd.
A great day out at one of the regions finest courses, well organised by our Captain Steve Occleston.

Occy wins Memory Cup
Our 2025 Captain, Steve Occleston, collected the first piece of silverware in 2025, The Memory Cup. 18 members played at Pike Fold GC, where we were well looked after and the course considering the time of year was in decent conditions.
Steve had an A1 consistent round of golf, 18 out followed by 18 in, to record a trophy winning 36 points. 2nd place was decided by a card play-off between Dan Dunn, ACS and new member Colm Buteaux. Dan won this and pipped the runner up spot. Great day and a great start to the season.
