TAGGS WEA24
Bridlington, East Yorkshire

The venue for WEA24 has been chosen, in our anniversary year we are basing ourselves in the East Yorkshire coastal town of Bridlington. Dates for the WEA are 20-23rd September. click on photos for website info

Our hotel is The Belvedere Hotel & Golf club, based a short walk from Bridlington town centre. The hotel boasts 2 courses, where we are playing on Saturday. The hotel has a reputation locally for good food and pleasant surroundings. The bar area has 2 snooker tables for guests to use and the location makes it possible to enjoy the bright lights of 'Brid'

Day 1, sees the group travel the 90 minutes or so to Filey Golf Club. With it's coastal setting the course is a fine mix of parkland and links. Established in 1897, with the links designed by James Braid, where you can see many of his design touches.

The course is easy walking with some spectacular views of the East Yorkshire coast.

The group can have a lie-in on Saturday as we are playing our host course at The Belvedere Hotel. Designed in 1905 by 5 time Open Champion and former Ryder Cup Captain J. H .Taylor to improve golf in Bridlington, the original course was formerly part of the Hilderthorpe Hall Estate. The building of the hotel was completed in 2018 and is flourishing with visitors .

Sunday sees the group wander over to Hornsea Golf Club. Established in 1898, Dr. Alister Mackenzie, the renowned golf architect from Leeds, who designed, among others, Alwoodley, Royal Melbourne, Cypress Point, Pebble Beach and most famously the Augusta National was brought in.  He made numerous recommendations for the Hornsea golf course, particularly in relation to the greens. His approach was that greens should be visible to the approaching golfer and have undulating surfaces towards the back.
